It's the first question almost every couple asks, and it deserves a straight answer instead of "it depends". In French-speaking Switzerland a professional wedding film usually starts around CHF 2,500-3,500. An editorial photo + video duo covering the full day generally lands between CHF 5,000 and 10,000, sometimes more for multi-day weddings or a full crew.
Those numbers only look surprising while you picture yourself paying for a day of shooting. What you're mostly paying for is the edit. A single wedding day easily produces several hundred gigabytes of footage and audio. Sorting it, finding the right glances, building the pace, cleaning up the vows, colour-grading and delivering both a teaser and a feature film routinely takes five to ten times the hours spent on location.
What pushes a quote up, in order: hours of coverage (preparations through the first dance costs more than ceremony plus apéritif), the number of deliverables (teaser, feature film, speeches cut, vertical formats), a second shooter when the day genuinely needs simultaneous coverage, and travel when the wedding is outside the region.
What should never change the price: being "a small wedding". Forty guests take the same editing time as two hundred. What changes is logistics, not post-production.
How to read a quote honestly: check three things. One, the number of hours on site, written down. Two, exactly what you receive, with durations, "a film" means nothing, "a 60-90 second teaser and an 8-12 minute film" means something. Three, the delivery deadline and how the files reach you. A quote that stays vague on those three points will stay vague after the wedding too.
The lowest price is rarely the real question. Wedding video is one of the few budget lines whose value grows with time: the flowers wilt, the dinner ends, the film stays. That said, a tight budget isn't a dead end, cutting hours of coverage, taking the teaser plus a short film only, or choosing an off-season date are far more effective levers than haggling with someone whose work you love.
